PORT LOUIS, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao met with his Mauritian counterpart Anerood Jugnauth here on Tuesday. Both leaders expressed willingness to further promote cooperation between the two nations in various fields.
Hu said the Chinese and Mauritian peoples have enjoyed profound traditional friendship, and since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have paid much attention to bilateral relations, and have actively promoted cooperation in politics, economy and trade, culture, education, tourism and other areas.
In recent years, high-level exchanges between the two nations have become more frequent, political mutual trust has been strengthened, economic cooperation has yielded new achievements, and cultural exchanges have become more active. The development of Sino-Mauritian relations has brought tangible benefits to the two countries and their peoples, the Chinese leader said.
Hu expressed willingness to expand the friendly cooperation with Mauritius in various fields, and to keep close communication and coordination on international affairs. He called on both sides to enhance cooperation in tackling the global financial crisis, in a bid to ensure development and prosperity in both countries.

China will continue to earnestly implement the measures adopted at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2006, to enhance and expand Sino-African cooperation under the new circumstance and to make the friendly cooperation even better in the future, the Chinese leader said.
Hu highly appraised Mauritius' achievements in its national construction and economic and social development, and spoke highly of the country's important role in promoting regional solidarity and cooperation.
Noting the long-term traditional friendship between Mauritius and China, Jugnauth thanked China for its persistent support and assistance for his country's economic and social development.
Jugnauth expressed his belief that Hu's visit would surely consolidate and enhance the friendly relations between the two nations.
He also thanked China for its efforts in enhancing cooperation with Africa in recent years, which he said has been in keeping with the common interests of China and Africa.
President Hu is on the last leg of his five-nation trip, which has already taken him to Saudi Arabia, Mali, Senegal and Tanzania.
Chinese president starts visit to Mauritius
PORT LOUIS, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived Monday in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, for a state visit aimed at enhancing bilateral friendship and cooperation.
He was greeted at the airport by Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
